Beck Valley Storm Drain - Nottingham

History

“Underneath Nottingham city runs a storm drain culvert almost 2 miles long which forms the outflow for several sewers & surface runoff and can discharge untreated sewage into the river trent during bad weather conditions(hence why we went during a drought). Around 600 yards from the infall is a 4 ft brick arch, then a 6 ft brick arch with a concrete floor, the sewer lies beneath the concrete floor. The culvert then changes to a 12 ft brick arch, then a 12 ft elongated arch which continues to the outfall at the river trent, there are around  4 1/2 million bricks, red above & colliery black below and were Built by Footing & Barry opened in 1884”.
