Supercharger B - Manchester

History

Supercharger B is a culverted section of the Gore Brook in Longsight, Manchester. Constructed around 1914 as part of the city's expanding drainage network, the tunnel carries the brook beneath densely developed urban areas and stretches for approximately 700 metres (0.4 miles). Built primarily from Edwardian brickwork with later concrete additions, it features impressive arched passages, combined sewer overflow (CSO) chambers, waterfalls, inspection shafts, and large interceptor connections that demonstrate early 20th-century civil engineering. Together with the adjoining Supercharger A culvert, it forms one of Manchester's many, historic underground watercourses.
